What's the prompt again?

Write. What’s the prompt again? Really, who cares? It doesn’t matter. Just write. Enjoy the pleasure of ink that speaks your idea onto the page. Relish the freedom - and right – of choosing your own thoughts, following the idea to old familiar places or new horizons. Dr. Seuss knew this to be true:
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
I had to look up the exact words, but oh, the places you could go in your own writing without ever being told how many words, which words, which words not to use, or how long, or the bother of counting sentences or checking off someone else’s list of grammatical and mechanical features.

It’s just you on the page.

Not the teacher. Not the test. Not the prompt. Never the should-could-would-I’s?

Just. YOUR. Choices. Your voice. Your meaning and passion.

No one could really tell you what to say anyway. How could they know what you think and feel until YOU tell them? Send that prompt away. Send it packing. And then you’ll be the one who travels farther and further.

You’re the only prompt you need.
